It was an evening filled with romance, music, dining, and dancing as MagicWaste Youth Foundation celebrated its 4th annual fundraising gala with all the glitz and glamour of the Great Gatsby. And it was all for a worthy cause: To benefit MWYF’s foster youth scholarship and empowerment programs.

Emceed by Armando Trabanco, MWYF Vice-President and Regional Retail Sales Manager at Synovus Bank, the event featured three very special speakers who moved the audience with their experiences as former foster youngsters:

  • Ruth Ramirez, Director of Development, KIPP:Miami;
  • Chef Jamarr Massey, Corporate-Executive Chef, @grown; and
  • Nicklas Campagna, Pre-Nursing student, Miami-Dade College.

Also present to give Team MWYF a warm “Thank You!” was Precious Oden, a student at Miami-Dade College’s Miami Culinary Institute and the recipient of MWYF’s 2018 Scholarship.

And to close the official presentation, MWYF announced two huge developments for 2020: The establishment of a second scholarship endowment with Miami-Dade College Foundation in memory of its director and friend, former State Representative Gustavo “Gus” Barreiro, and the implementation of the first phase of its Excalibur Project, providing housing for so many former foster youths who are homeless.

Among the dignitaries in attendance were Judges Bronwyn Miller and Migna Sanchez Llorens; members of Miami-Dade Commissioner Joe Martinez’s office; Miami-Dade Commissioner José “Pepe” Díaz; and Joe Perkins, candidate for Circuit Judge.

Guests thoroughly enjoyed the activities planned for the night, including the welcome cocktail hour; fabulous entertainment by Violines Tania y Abraham; the exquisite dinner by Renaissance Ballrooms; flower arrangements and decorations by Petal Cartel; and an animated raffle and the silent and live auctions.

Special thanks to Susan Montoya Blandon, Executive Producer, USA Signature Events, and her team for their unconditional assistance and support.

The gala’s co-chairs, Rosa María Carreras and Jacqueline Ceballos, and the MWYF team wish to express their gratitude to the event’s sponsors, as well as the table sponsors, partners, donors, and guests for their generosity and enthusiasm.
